Temperature and salinity profiles from bathythermograph and other instruments from multiple platforms from a world-wide distribution from 1993-01-01 to 1993-06-30 (NCEI Accession 9300191) |
Abstract: |
The accession contains temperature and salinity profiles, water transparency and other data that are in the bathythermograph/temperatue-salinity-currents (BATHY/TESAC) formats. Data were collected from multiple platform from a World-Wide distribution. Data were sent as radio messages from ships to Japanese Hydrographic Office, Tokyo, Japan from January to June 1993. Data are from 28,067 stations containing 122,840 records and were collected as part of Integrated Global Ocean Service System (IGOSS). Data were forwarded by Dr. Osamu Yamada to NODC. The data are in a single ASCII text formatted columnar file. The BATHY/TESAC format descriptions required to understand these data are archived in this accession. |

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).
Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.
To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
