The International Arctic Buoy Program (IABP) is a network of drifting buoys in the Arctic Ocean that provides meteorological and oceanographic data for real-time operational requirements and research. Data from the IABP are used for research in Arctic climate and climate change, forecasting weather and ice conditions, validation of satellites, forcing, validation and assimilation into numerical climate models, and tracking the source and fate of samples taken from the ice.
