Uncrewed Systems (UxS) Metadata Templates

Uncrewed Systems (UxS) are remotely piloted or autonomous vehicles that collect ocean data. Both NOAA and the Department of the Navy are increasingly engaged in UxS data collection to support their various missions. The Department of the Navy uses UxS for defense applications, and NOAA uses UxS for ocean monitoring and data collection. NCEI and the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command are developing metadata guidelines and templates to improve interoperability so that the data these vehicles collect can be seamlessly implemented in both defense and research contexts.

Metadata Templates (Beta)

The UxS community can use these templates to view namespaces that the Navy and NOAA will use in data pipelines to ensure data interoperability between UxS communities.

Supporting Legislation

NOAA and the Department of the Navy collaborate to advance UxS interoperability under the Commercial Engagement through Ocean Technology (CENOTE) Act of 2018(link is external).

NOTE: These are beta templates that are only intended for UxS applications. See the NCEI Metadata page for NCEI metadata
