The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: | Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) Atlases: A sampling of digital data for geographic information systems, South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington (NCEI Accession 0046075) |
Abstract: | This CD-ROM product from the NOAA National Ocean Service Hazardous Materials Response and Assessment Division contains a collection of Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps and data in text and native .e00 files suitable for use with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. Samples of GIS data are included for the following locations: coastal central California, coastal northern California, San Francisco Bay area, central and southern Puget Sound, coastal Oregon, coastal Washington, Hawaii, coastal South Carolina, and the Colorado River basin. These data characterize coastal environments by their sensitivity to spilled oil and include information for shoreline habitats. |

Northern California ESI data are available from the CD digital data release, March 2001 (vs.2), Seattle Washington, titled - ESI Atlas Northern California, maps and geographic information systems data, archived in NCEI accession 0013175. Central California ESI data are available from the CD digital data release, July 2006, Seattle Washington, titled - ESI Atlas: Central California (Including Monterey Bay Sanctuary), maps and geographic information systems data, archived in NCEI accession 0013176. San Francisco Bay ESI data are available from the CD digital data release, March 2001 (vs. 3), Seattle Washington, titled - ESI Atlas San Francisco Bay, California maps and geographic information systems data, archived in NCEI accession 0013224. Southern California ESI data are available from the CD digital data release, March 2001 (vs. 2), Seattle Washington, titled -ESI Atlas Southern California, maps and geographic information systems data, archived in NCEI accession 0013225. California ESI data are available from the DVD digital data re-release, April 2009, Seattle, Washington, titled - ESI Atlas: California; Northern (2008), Southern (1995), Central (2006), and San Francisco (1998) maps and geographic information systems data, South Carolina, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, archived in NCEI accession 0052935. Besides the above warning, there are no use constraints on these data. Note that the ESI database should not be used to the exclusion of other pertinent data or information held by state or federal agencies or other organizations. Likewise, information contained in the database cannot be used in place of consultations with environmental, natural resource, and cultural resource agencies, or in place of field surveys. Recognize that the information contained in the ESI database represents known concentration areas or occurrences of natural, cultural, and human-use resources, but does not necessarily represent the full distribution or range of each species or resource. This is particularly important to recognize when considering potential impacts to protected resources, such as endangered species, wetlands, etc. Acknowledgment of the originators, publishers, contributors, and sources listed would be appreciated in products derived from these data.
