This dataset contains biological and survey - biological data collected in the Gulf of California, Indian Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, and South Pacific Ocean from 1979-01-01 to 2011-12-31. These data include class, common_name, depth, family, genus, order, phylum, species, stage, and taxon_code. These data were collected by Lauren Dykman of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the "Trajectories in functional diversity after disturbance at vents on the East Pacific Rise (EPR Functional Diversity)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2023-05-12.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Literature review of deep-sea hydrothermal vent parasite, egg predator, and micropredator species

Dataset Description:
Acquisition Description:
Online databases were queried for records of parasite species described or reported from deep-sea hydrothermal vent ecosystems. Deep sea hydrothermal vent sites (1055-3650m depth) from N. Pacific, S. Pacific, N. Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.

All papers reporting vent parasites were read and their citations searched for mention of additional species. Data on the parasite and host were recorded from the publication, including collection metadata and taxonomic details of the host and parasite.
