Physical, chemical, and biological water quality data collected from a small boat in western Lake Erie, Great Lakes from 2022-04-25 to 2022-10-24 (NCEI Accession 0292222)
Physical, chemical, and biological water quality data from the western basin of Lake Erie collected during the 2022 field season. These data were collected during repeated trips to a set of stations before, during, and after harmful algal blooms (HABs). Data for the following parameters are included, wind speed, Secchi depth, CTD temperature, CTD specific conductivity, CTD beam attenuation, CTD transmission, CTD dissolved oxygen, CTD photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), turbidity, particulate microcystin, dissolved microcystin, extracted phycocyanin, extracted phycocyanin, extracted chlorophyll-a, total cyanobacteria genes, mcyE genes, total phosphorus, total dissolved phosphorus, soluble reactive phosphorus, ammonia, nitrate + nitrite, particulate organic carbon, particulate organic nitrogen, colored dissolved organic material absorbance at 400 nm, total suspended solids, and volatile suspended solids. Any cells in a table with no value means there is no data available.

Purpose | These data were collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (NOAA-GLERL) and the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR) (NOAA Cooperative Agreement NA17OAR4320152 and NA22OAR4320150) to support NOAA-GLERL’s operational development of the Lake Erie harmful algal bloom (HAB) forecasts and to directly monitor microcystin concentrations within the ecosystem. We have conducted this discrete field sampling along with continuous field sampling, experimental work, and hydrodynamic-biological mechanistic modeling to ensure development of useful tools and technology for local managers, interfacing with end users- facilitating the translation of research into more effective decision-making and public education. |
