This dataset contains physical data collected on R/V Ka`imikai-O-Kanaloa during cruise KOK1108 in the North Pacific Ocean from 2011-06-06 to 2011-06-17. These data include depth, potential temperature, sigma-theta, water pressure, and water temperature. The instruments used to collect these data include CTD Sea-Bird 911 and Niskin bottle. These data were collected by Dr Kenneth O. Buesseler of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the "Establishing Radionuclide Levels in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans Originating from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Facility (Fukushima Radionuclide Levels)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2019-05-16.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

137Cs and 134Cs concentrations from Fukushima Radionuclide Project

Dataset Description:
Radionuclide results from surface and hydrocast bottle samples were determined from high purity germanium detectors and calibrated against IAEA standards as described in Buesseler et al. (PNAS, 2012).

Concentrations of Cesium isotopes 137Cs and 134Cs are reported in units of Bq (1 Becquerel = one disintegration per second) per unit volume (Bq/meter^3).

Supplemental Information
Change History:
Data version 2 (2012-12-08) replaced Data version 1 (2012-10).
Note that updated Cesium data measurements were contributed by Ken Buesseler in October 2012. The online dataset has been revised to include these measurements. A PDF version of these updates is available (). The data are in the same format as Table S1 in the 2012 Buesseler et al. PNAS paper cited below. The net difference in old vs. new is 0.3%, but a few values have changed by 5% or more. The update reflects a second run of the chemical yields measured for stable Cs by ICPMS.

Acquisition Description:
Water samples were collected in Niskin bottles attached to a CTD Rosette.
Purpose This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.
