Bulk suspended PON d15N from several cruises conducted in the Southern Ocean south of Africa from 2012-2019 (NCEI Accession 0277707)

This dataset contains chemical data collected on R/V Akademik Tryoshnikov, R/V S.A. Agulhas I, and R/V S.A. Agulhas II during cruises ACE_Leg1, ACE_Leg3, SOSCEx1, VOY016, VOY019, and VOY03 in the Indian Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean from 2012-07-20 to 2019-04-16. These data include d15N and particulate organic nitrogen. The instruments used to collect these data include Elemental Analyzer and Isotope-ratio Mass Spectrometer. These data were collected by Daniel M. Sigman of Princeton University as part of the "High-resolution, Assemblage-specific Records of Diatom-bound N Isotopes from the Indian Sector of the Antarctic Ocean (Diatom-bound_N_Isotopes)", "MRI: Acquisition of Stable Isotope Instrumentation for the Biogeosciences at Princeton University (stable isotope instrumentation)", and "Understanding the nitrogen isotopes of planktonic foraminifera: A modern Sargasso Sea study (N Isotopes Foraminifera)" projects. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2020-03-13.

Bulk suspended PON d15N from the region south of African sector

Dataset Description:
Compilation of surface measurements of bulk suspended particulate organic nitrogen (PON) collected from the Southern Ocean south of Africa (spanning 0-42°E). Date, time, latitude, and longitude are the averages of the start and end values of each underway collection.

Acquisition Description:
Bulk (>0.3 um) suspended PON samples were collected from the underway intake (at 7 m depth) and frozen at −80°C until isotope analysis. The N isotope composition of bulk PON was measured by elemental analyser-isotope ratio mass spectrometry at the University of Cape Town. See methods section of Smart et al. (2020) for more detail.
Purpose This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.
