This dataset includes seasonal water column carbonate chemistry species, temperature, and salinity sampled aboard the R/V Manta from 2013-11-18 to 2016-11-15 at Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Data from a rapid response cruise on Aug. 1 2016 are also included for water depth up to 250 m. Quality flags are provided for pH, total alkalinity, and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC). The maximum depth sampled is 250 m.

  • Parameter or Variable: pH (measured); Units: N/A; Observation Category: laboratory analysis; Sampling Instrument: Unknown; Sampling and Analyzing Method: We used purified m-cresol purple (mCP) obtained from Dr. Robert ByrneÕs lab (Patsavas et al., 2013) to measure pH (on total scale) at 25¡C in a water-jacketed flow cell on an Agilent 8453 spectrometer with the experimental setup similar to that in Carter et al. (2013). pH was calculated using the equation in Liu et al. (2011). One exception to the above pH analysis was that we used manual dye injection and unpurified mCP for the samples collected in November 2013, and an older version of pH equation (Clayton and Byrne, 1993) was used for samples collected on that trip.; Data Quality Method: Replicate analysis on a selection of samples.
