Sediment samples, ammonium and methane data collected during R/V Atlantis cruise AT26-13 in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2014-03-31 to 2014-04-21 (NCEI Accession 0175003)
This dataset contains sediment samples, ammonium concentrations and methane data collected during R/V Atlantis cruise AT26-13 in the northern Gulf of Mexico from March 31 to April 21, 2014. The R/V Atlantis cruise AT26-13 set sail with the HOV Alvin on board on March 30, 2014. GoMRI funded Alvin dives occurred on March 31st and April 1st of 2014. This dataset includes sediment samples collected on those dives. In addition, it also includes water column profiles collected to measure dissolved ammonium concentrations using advanced auto-analyzer equipment from the Martens lab at UNC-Chapel Hill, and methane data taken from around the northern gulf with the METS sensor.

Purpose | The purpose of this cruise were to visit sites impacted by the Macondo Blowout as well as natural seeps sites dominated by oil and gas discharge. The main objectives of this study were to investigate sediment geochemistry, and to track methane and ammonium concentration in order to find out the continuing impact of the Deep Horizon blowout in the northern Gulf of Mexico. |
