abstract: This dataset contains chemical data collected on R/V Hugh R. Sharp during cruise HRS1709 on 2017-08-06. These data include H2S and depth core. The instruments used to collect these data include Automatic titrator, CO2 Analyzer, and Pump. These data were collected by Bradley M. Tebo of Oregon Health & Science University and George W. Luther of University of Delaware as part of the "Collaborative Research: Transformations of soluble Mn(III) along horizontal and vertical oxygen gradients (Manganese3)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2021-02-19. The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO: Porewater H2S Chesapeake Bay 2017 Dataset Description: Acquisition Description: In situ pump profiler cast refers to profiling with a pump profiler for O₂ and H₂S using solid state gold-amalgam electrodes for voltammetry (Luther et al, 2008; Analytical Instrument Systems DLK-60). Water was pumped aboard to make measurements on discrete samples for Mn and Fe speciation as well. See Hudson et al (2019) for more information. H₂ S Sedimentary porewater H₂S methods (UV-Vis spectrophotometry) followed Luther et al. (2011).

description: measures gaseous carbon dioxide Carbon dioxide gas analyzer has often been referred to as LI-COR, because a lot of researchers choose to use products manufactured by LI-COR incorporation for their carbon dioxide measurement. The main component of a carbon dioxide analyzer is a nondispersive infrared (NDIR) spectroscopic sensors to detect CO2 in a gaseous environment by its characteristic absorption. Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas analyzer works together with carbon dioxide (CO2) equilibrator (insttypes_id 184) to measure carbon dioxide in the water. To measure water carbon dioxide, water needs to be continuously supplied to a showerhead inside an equilibrator. As the water flows through the equilibrator chamber, dissolved carbon dioxide exchanges quickly with air in the headspace. This air is then sampled by the carbon dioxide analyzer to determine the mole fraction of CO2 in water.
