Benthic Ecosystem and Acidification Measuring System (BEAMS) data from two Bermuda sites collected during 2015 (BEAMS project) (NCEI Accession 0277911)

browse graphicGraphic not available.
This dataset contains chemical and physical data collected at shoreside Bermuda during deployment BEAMS_Bermuda from 2015-07-21 to 2015-07-29. These data include PAR, dissolved Oxygen, pH, salinity calculated from CTD primary sensors, water pressure, and water temperature. The instruments used to collect these data include Dissolved Oxygen Sensor, Flow Meter, Light Meter, and pH Sensor. These data were collected by Nichole N. Price of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, Wade McGillis of Columbia University, Yuichiro Takeshita of Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, and Jennifer Smith and Todd R. Martz of University of California-San Diego as part of the "Quantifying the potential for biogeochemical feedbacks to create 'refugia' from ocean acidification on tropical coral reefs (BEAMS)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2020-01-14.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Supplemental Information
Acquisition Description:
This dataset was collected using the Benthic Ecosystem and Acidification Measuring System (BEAMS). The details of this technique and dataset can be found in the reference provided below (Takeshita et al. 2016), but are also summarized briefly here.

BEAMS uses autonomous sensors to quantify mean gradients of pH and O2 and the current velocity profile in the benthic boundary layer (BBL) to calculate benthic fluxes of O2 (NCP) and TA (NCC). The NCP and NCC provided here represent metabolic rates under completely natural (e.g. flow and light) conditions.
Purpose This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.
