This dataset includes chemical, discrete sample, physical and profile data collected from JOHN V. VICKERS in the Bering Sea, North Pacific Ocean and South Pacific Ocean from 1992-08-16 to 1992-10-21 and retrieved during cruise WOCE_P13N. These data include ALKALINITY, CHLOROFLUOROCARBON-11 (CFC-11), CHLOROFLUOROCARBON-113 (CFC-113), CHLOROFLUOROCARBON-12 (CFC-12), Carbon tetrachloride (CCL4), DELTA CARBON-13, DELTA CARBON-14, DELTA HELIUM-3, DISSOLVED INORGANIC CARBON, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, HELIUM, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, NEON, NITRATE, NITRITE, PHOSPHATE, Potential temperature (theta), SALINITY, SILICATE, Tritium (Hydrogen isotope) and WATER TEMPERATURE. The instruments used to collect these data include CTD and bottle. These data were collected by Charles D. Keeling and Andrew Dickson of Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of the WOCE_P13N data set.
The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) was a major component of the World Climate Research Program with the overall goal of better understanding the ocean's role in climate and climatic changes resulting from both natural and anthropogenic causes. The CO2 survey took advantage of the sampling opportunities provided by the WOCE Hydrographic Program (WHP) cruises during this period between 1990 and 1998. The final collection covers approximately 23,000 stations from 94 WOCE cruises.

- Parameter or Variable: Dissolved Inorganic Carbon; Abbreviation: DIC; Observation type: discrete; In-situ / Manipulation / Response variable: In-situ observation; Measured or calculated: Calculated; Replicate information: Duplicate samples were taken at each full station. These were typically a surface sample (in the top 10 m) and a deep sample (usually from one of the two deepest Niskin bottles). The duplicates were analyzed with the surface pair being analyzed at the beginning of a run and the deep pair being split between the beginning and end of a run. The standard deviation of a single measurement calculated from these duplicates was 1.3 μmol/kg for the surface samples (analyzed together); and 2.0 μmol/kg for the deep samples (analyzed at the start and end of a run).; CRM batch number: 13=2015.13 μmol/kg.
- Parameter or Variable: Total alkalinity; Abbreviation: TA; Observation type: discrete; In-situ / Manipulation / Response variable: In-situ observation; Measured or calculated: Measured; Type of titration: potentiometric; Cell type (open or closed): Closed; Curve fitting method: The TALK concentrations were determined by potentiometric titration.; Uncertainty: Accuracy of the analyses was +/-2 μmol/kg. Titrations of CRM samples provided an additional estimate of reproducibility and also an estimate of the accuracy through comparison of the at-sea results with the value certified by the laboratory of A. G. Dickson at SIO. The value for CRM batch 13, certified by titrations in 1996 on archived samples, was 2203.79 μmol/kg. During the cruise 84 titrations of CRM batch 13 were made. After 6 measurements were rejected, the si calculated for 78 measurements was 2.29 μmol/kg. The average TALK for the 78 measurements was 2201.26 μmol/kg, nearly within one standard deviation of the certified value. The TALK measurements of seawater reported here have NOT been adjusted by this difference. Figure 5 is a plot of the difference between the shipboard TALK of CRM batch 13 and the certified value versus time during both legs of the cruise.; Method reference: Guenther, P. R., G.
