The Antarctic Core Collection (ACC) is a part of the Oregon State University Marine and Geology Repository (OSU-MGR). The OSU-MGR is a partner in the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples (IMLGS) database, contributing information to the IMLGS to help researchers discover geological samples curated in their facility. The partner repository may also send related data, documents, and imagery to NCEI for long-term archive, but the originating institution is the definitive source of information related to their sample collection. The OSU-MGR is an NSF funded repository that hosts the OSU Marine Geology and Geophysics collection and the ACC. The collections include more than 24 miles of oceanic sediment cores and tens of thousands of marine rock specimens that provide scientists an archive of Earth’s history, including changes in climate, biology, volcanic and seismic activity, meteorite interactions and more. The facility is well equipped to run major sampling parties, research programs, and educational endeavors. Laboratory space is available for analytical activities including scanning tracks for physical properties and elemental analyses.

Supplemental Information
In 2017, the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Oregon State University (OSU) stewardship of the cores of the Antarctic Marine Geology Research Facility (AMGRF) previously operated by Florida State University. The AMGRF was established in 1963 to curate and provide long-term storage for core material collected on the Antarctic continent and its margins. The AMGRF collection was transferred to OSU via 14 50-feet refrigerated semi-trucks over the summer of 2018. The new OSU facility is 33,000 square feet and includes 10,900 square feet of refrigerated core storage, 11,600 square feet of dry rock storage, and a 550 square feet walk-in freezer. The facility is well equipped to run major sampling parties, research programs, and educational endeavors. Laboratory space is available for analytical activities including scanning tracks for physical properties and elemental analyses.
Purpose
The purpose of the Oregon State University Marine and Geology Repository (OSU-MGR) is to curate our collections and associated datasets in order to facilitate modern science and research. To do this we work to: (1) expand and preserve the collections using best practices for future research and education; (2) distribute geological subsamples from our collections for future research and education; and (3) promote access to our diverse collections via our outreach program and state-of-the-art web and data services.

Lineage Statement
Data are received by NCEI on an intermittent basis from the repository. Incoming data are checked for adherence to controlled vocabularies, illegal data types in numeric fields, and out of range latitudes/longitudes. NCEI adds IGSNs/links to related resources, where known, and may perform cursory visual inspection of data for reasonableness, asking the originator for guidance on discrepancies. NCEI informs the originator upon ingest of data to the IMLGS database, after which the originator provides one final quality control using the IMLGS map viewer. Data may also be updated/corrected at any time, at the originator's request.
