Climatography of the United States No. 20 is a historical publication series that are available at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). The Climatography of the United States No. 20 (CLIM20), Monthly Station Climate Summaries for 1971-2000 are station summaries of particular interest to agriculture, industry, and engineering applications. These summaries contain a variety of statistics for temperature, precipitation, snow, freeze dates, and degree day elements for more than 4,000 stations. The NCDC No. 20 series of climatic summaries gives weather data from selected observation sites in the National Weather Service (NWS) cooperative observation network. Those sites are usually in or near cities which do not have airport weather stations or city weather offices. There have been several issues of the No. 20 series; each issue is based on a specific period-of- record of observations. The latest issue is from the 1971-2000 period. Each issue is updated decennially. This product updates and expands on the previous version by adding statistics and thresholds to the temperature, precipitation, and snow climatologies and including 32 degrees Fahrenheit as a base to the degree days table. Station lists by state, for each of the issue periods contain the period-of- record, location (latitude/longitude), and elevation from sea-level. The major parameters in the No. 20 file for the 1971-2000 issue are monthly and annual temperature climatologies; monthly and annual precipitation climatologies; monthly and annual snow climatologies; freeze data; and degree days. The 1951-1970, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75 issues contained the above parameters except for heating and cooling degree days to selected bases, growing degree units, and growing degree units for corn. The 1893-1970 historical summaries were prepared in various formats, but most of them did possess the basic parameters temperature, precipitation, and snowfall. The latest issue of the NCDC No. 60 series contains a narrative climatic summary, a means and extremes table for each cooperative station in the state that utilized data for the periods 1951-1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, or 1975 that was published in the Climatography of the United States No. 20 file, and the normals (1941-1970), means and extremes (1941-1975, 1976, or 1977) table from the annual issue of Local Climatological Data for all stations in the state at the time of publication. This series is not available on-line. Show more...
