| Abstract: | This dataset contains primarily sea temperatures data and salinity records resultant from NMFS Alaska Fisheries Science Center groundfish bottom trawl surveys, Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska and U.S. west coast surveys, from approx. Aug. 1976 to Sept. 1997. The records in the file EVENT.LST tie directly to the records in the file PROFILE.LST, keying on vessel, cruise and event. Also, the PROFILE.LST cruises are in no particular order, for example, the data records begin with a 1982 Bering Sea cruise made by the vessel Pat San Marie. The files are ASCII text and were extracted from the NMFS RACEBase Oracle data base. |

The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM.
