Title: Phytoplankton cell counts and relative abundance of three dominant diatoms from THOMAS G. THOMPSON from TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S) as part of the US JGOFS EqPac project from 1992-02-06 to 1992-11-24 (NCEI Accession 9700068)
Abstract: Phytoplankton were collected from the Thomas G. Thompson as part of the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere (TOGA) program to assess biomass and abundance. Data were collected from the Pacific Ocean (30 N to 30 S) from 06 February 1992 to 24 November 1992. A CTD rosette was employed to obtain samples. Temperature, salinity, and pressure data are not available. Data include nominal depth of samples. Abundance of dinoflagellates, diatoms (dead, containing, no protoplasm), diatoms, coccolithophores, other phytoplankton, and total counts of all phytoplankton cells are in units of cells/liter. Biomass of dinoflagellates, diatoms, coccolithophores, other phytoplankton, and total of all phytoplankton cells are in units of carbon/liter.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
