Title: Nansen bottle and other data from SAMUDERA and TYRO in the SW Pacific and South Pacific Ocean from 1984-08-01 to 1985-02-21 (NCEI Accession 9300108)
Abstract: NANSEN data collected during the cruises by the RV SAMUDERA and RV TYRO within theme 3 of the SNELLIUS II expedition, conducted by the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) in SW Pacific (limit-147 E to 140 W) between August 1, 1984 and February 21, 1985.

First set of data were collected during August 1984 between 5 - 9 degrees S and 130 - 138 degrees E. Parameters include: temperature, salinity, depth, air pressure, oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, and silicate. Data containing 4,078 records from 1984 - 1985 was submitted in a diskette by Dr. Martien A. Baars, NIOZ, Den Burg, Netherlands. Lots of text headers mixed among the data. Data received from WDC-A, apparently not data archaeology.

Second set of data was standard upcast CTD and nutrient data collected by the RV TYRO as part of the SNELLIUS II expedition conducted by the NIAZ. Data were collected from 3 - 7 S and 128 - 134 E, to a depth of 300 meters. Parameters include: temperature, salinity, depth, air pressure, oxygen, phosphate, silicate, nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, total organic carbon, particulate organic carbon, ATP, and Chlorophyll a. These data are the results of primary productivity incubations from samples collected during the August 1984 cruise. Data were submitted in a tabular format; incubation periods, station location, Secchi disk, surface irradiance, carbonate carbon, and productivity estimates were recorded at roughly 10 - 20 meter intervals to a depth of 100 meters. pH, salinity, and temperature are also listed for each depth and location. Initial samples were collected at 3 - 6 S and 128 - 134 E.

Supplementary information: Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
