Title: PARTICULATE ORGANIC CARBON, cloud amount/frequency and other data from KAIMALINO and MOANA WAVE in the TOGA Area - Pacific and North Pacific Ocean from 1988-10-30 to 1989-11-29 (NCEI Accession 9300009)
Abstract: Temperature, Depth, Salinity, dissolved Oxygen (CTD), and Fluorescence data collected in North Pacific Ocean and TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S) between October 30, 1988 and November 29, 1989 during 12 cruises as part of the Hawaii Ocean Time-Series (HOTS) project, to fulfill the requirements of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE). Data was collected from 17 stations and a tape containing 31,960 records was submitted to NODC by Steven M. Chiswell, University of Hawaii at Manoa. CTD data were archived as file type F022, NODC Reference #'s TW4956-TW4959. Bottle data (C100) were archived under NODC numbers 323160-323165 and 330001-330006.

These cruises are part of a series made at the HOTS deepwater station 100 km. north of Oahu, Hawaii. In addition to this "WOCE-approved" tape, NODC has acquired HOT1 data that includes pigment and nutrient parameters required by the JGOFS program (Joint Global Ocean Flux Study). Although some of the data parameter requirements of WOCE and JGOFS overlap, WOCE focuses on physical oceanography; JGOFS is primarily concerned with biological processes. The "JGOFS" set can be found under accession number 9300183.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
