The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. Title: | Air temperature, barometric pressure, sea surface temperature and other data from drifting buoys in the Bismarck Sea, Coral Sea and others from 1989-03-01 to 1989-03-31 (NCEI Accession 8900156) |
Abstract: | This dataset contains drifting buoy data collected from 1989-03-01 to 1989-03-31 from buoys deployed by National Data Buoy Center, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. Air temperature, barometric pressure, sea surface temperature, water depth, wind direction and wind speed data were collected in the Bismarck Sea, Coral Sea, East China Sea (Tung Hai), Gulf of Mexico, Indian Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, Norwegian Sea, Philippine Sea, Solomon Sea, South Atlantic Ocean, South China Sea (Nan Hai), South Pacific Ocean, Southern Oceans (> 60 degrees South) and Tasman Sea as part of Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) project. The data were processed by NODC and are currently available in NODC F156 Drifting Buoy Data file format. |

Supplementary information: | Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
