Supplementary information: As noted in a message from Syd Levitus, World Data Center-A, Oceanography Director in 2009, "Data from Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) that are sent to the U.S. NODC [now NCEI] and its co-located WDC for Oceanography are sent for the purpose of international distribution. JMA sent the data to us with the knowledge that we distribute such data internationally without restriction."
