Title: Microplastic concentrations in the digestive tracts of Scyliorhinus canicula (small-spotted catshark) caught off the coast of Calp (Alicante, Spain) from 2019-11-01 to 2020-11-01 (NCEI Accession 0292552)
Abstract: This study estimated the concentration of microplastics (i.e. plastics measuring less than 5 mm; reported in unit of count per individual) in the digestive tracts of Scyliorhinus canicula (small-spotted catshark) caught off the coast of Calp (Alicante, Spain) from 2019-11-01 to 2020-11-01. The samples were obtained from commercial bottom-trawl fisheries bycatch, carried out by local fishermen. For each sample, measurements were taken of the total length, weight, and gastro-intestinal tracts (GIT) weight. Individual plastic shapes such as fibers, fragments, films, and foams were identified and counted. This dataset contains the results from all 200 fish samples, in a spreadsheet format.
