Title: | Southeast Florida Diving and Snorkeling Reef Expenditures Data from 2016-10-01 to 2017-10-01 (NCEI Accession 0229984) |
Abstract: | The Southeast Florida Diving and Snorkeling Reef Expenditures Data (“FloridaSnorkelDiveExpenditures_Data2016-17.csv”) consists of expenditure data collected via an online survey during October 2016 to October 2017 in Southeast Florida. The sampling strategy used in this data collection was a two-pronged approach and included a random sample drawn from all registered boaters in Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties, and an opportunistic sample that was obtained through collaboration with multiple partners and stakeholder entities. The survey instrument began with a short introductory video about the survey and how the results will be used. Several broad categories of data were obtained from the survey including a) expenses related to snorkeling and/or diving on Southeast Florida reefs during the past twelve months, b) dive/snorkel trip characteristics, c) past and future behavior patterns related to dive/snorkel trips, and d) limited demographic information. The data file contains data from 1,148 respondents on 133 variables measured in the survey instrument. |

Supplementary information: | The Florida Reef Expenditure Survey was designed primarily to collect information that allows for the estimation of economic impacts associated with expenditures on SCUBA diving and snorkeling on reefs in Southeast Florida, including Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties. The survey instrument was developed during the period of March 2016 to October 2016. Survey instruments included questions under several broad categories: * Expenses related to snorkeling and/or diving on Southeast Florida reefs during the past twelve months * Dive/snorkel trip characteristics * Past and future behavior patterns related to dive/snorkel trips * Limited demographic information |
