Title: Currents, temperature, and salinity measurements for the Keweenaw Interdisciplinary Transport Experiment in Superior (KITES) project by the University of Washington/University of Minnesota in Lake Superior, 1998-2001 (NODC Accession 0001204)
Abstract: This data collection contains current meter data from 17 moorings in Lake Superior during the years 1998-2001. Each current meter is represented by a single data file.

Supplementary information: KITES (Keweenaw Interdisciplinary Transport Experiment in Superior) is a project administered by the Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington and the Large Lakes Observatory, University of Minnesota, Duluth to assess the impact of the Keweenaw Current on cross margin transport in Lake Superior.

It is part of an interdisciplinary program to quantify the role of coastal currents and thermal fronts in mediating cross-margin transport in Lake Superior. The focus has been on the physical processes that allow materials to cross the coastal margin and enter the open lake. From May 1998 - May 2001 the Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington and the Large Lakes Observatory, University of Minnesota, Duluth conducted a series of four cruises based on coordinated use of moored instruments and shipboard ADCP and CTD surveys.
