The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: NOAA Office for Coastal Management Benthic Habitat Data, Apalachicola Bay, Dry Tortugas, Florida Bay, and Indian River Lagoon, Florida, 1991-2001 (NODC Accession 0001045)
Abstract: These data are a collection of regional GIS (Arcview shapefiles and associated Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata) benthic habitat files from studies conducted in specific locations within Florida. Data were collected in partnership with the NOAA Office for Coastal Management (formerly the Coastal Services Center) following the guidelines detailed by the NOAA Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP). Each regions's data is held in a separate subdirectory within this dataset.

These GIS benthic data vary in type and attributes depending on the purpose of the study for each region as follows - Apalachicola Bay, sediment profiling data and benthic community information gathered from grab sampling, Dry Tortugas, RoxAnn single-beam acoustic surveys which were part of a larger biogeographic characterization effort intended to characterize benthic habitats and ocean circulation patterns in the newly established Tortugas Ecological Reserve, Florida Bay, habitat polygons developed from National Geodetic Survey aerial photography according to NOAA Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) protocol, and Indian River Lagoon, mapping SAV beds and benthic habitat according to C-CAP protocol.

Each set of benthic data was developed according to protocols described in the associated FGDC metadata for each regional study.
A generalized browse graphic was generated at the NODC for each region and included with these data.

Supplementary information: This data set was formerly titled at the NCEI as: NOAA Coastal Services Center Benthic Habitat Data, Apalachicola Bay, Dry Tortugas, Florida Bay, and Indian River Lagoon, Florida, 1991-2001 (NODC Accession 0001045). The dataset title was changed at the NCEI in October 2015 to maintain currency.

These files were produced to be utilized within GIS software and include shapefiles (.shp and associated .prj, .dbf, .shx and .sbn files) and FGDC metdata files. These data are the data shape files only and do not include any underlying regional or state outline base maps. It is suggested users be familiar with georeferencing and projecting data within a GIS when using these data for scientific purposes.

Browse graphics for these data produced by the NODC were designed to provide a rapid overview of the data and facilitate user searches. They do not contain all data attributes of the data sets. GIS software is suggested when viewing or working with these data for maximum usability and performing data analyses.

A land mask is not provided for these data. Suggested shorelines are NOAA's Medium Resolution Shoreline downloadable at //coastalgeospatial.noaa.gov/data_gis.html and the GSHHS - A Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolution Shoreline Database downloadable at http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/shorelines/gshhs.html.
