Title: Underway nutrient and particle data from R/V Melville cruise MV1110 in the Western Tropical North Atlantic in 2011 (NCEI Accession 0292183)
Abstract: This dataset contains chemical and physical data collected on R/V Melville during cruise MV1110 in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2011-09-05 to 2011-10-06. These data include Total Particulate Nitrogen, d13C, d15N, nitrate plus nitrite, reactive phosphorus (PO4), sea surface salinity, sea surface temperature, silicate, silicon dioxide SiO2, and total particulate Carbon. The instruments used to collect these data include Isotope-ratio Mass Spectrometer, Lachat QuikChem 8000 flow injection analyzer and Ion Chromatography (IC) system, and Thermosalinograph. These data were collected by Joseph Montoya of Georgia Institute of Technology and Patricia L. Yager of University of Georgia as part of the "Amazon iNfluence on the Atlantic: CarbOn export from Nitrogen fixation by DiAtom Symbioses (ANACONDAS)" project and "Emerging Topics in Biogeochemical Cycles (ETBC)", "Integrated Marine Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research -US (IMBER-US)", "Marine Microbiology Initiative (MMI)", and "Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry (OCB)" programs. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2024-02-23.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Methods and Sampling:
The ship’s Underway system was equipped with an in-line Seabird thermosalinograph to collect sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface salinity (SSS) data from 5-7m below sea surface.

Nutrient samples were run at sea using a Lachat QuickChem 8000 flow-injection analyzer equipped with the following methods:

Phosphate 31-115-01-1-I
Silicate 31-114-27-1-B
Nitrate+Nitrite 31-107-04-1-A
Nitrite 31-107-05-1-A

Particle (particulate N and C) samples for stable isotope (d15N, d13C) were collected and analyzed following methods in Montoya et al. 2002.
