Title: Prochlorococcus in situ growth rates from cell cycle analysis from RV Cape Hatteras cruises CH0409 and CH0510 in the Western Sargasso Sea in 2009 and 2010 (NCEI Accession 0277292)
Abstract: This dataset contains biological data collected on R/V Cape Hatteras during cruises CH0409 and CH0510 in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2009-05-27 to 2010-05-31. These data include depth and growth. These data were collected by Dr Brian Binder of University of Georgia as part of the "Top-Down Regulation of Picophytoplankton in the Sargasso Sea: Application of a Reciprocal Transplant / Dilution Approach (Picophytoplankton_Regulation)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2023-01-23.

Prochlorococcus growth rates were calculated from diel time courses of the cell cycle phase fractions in data set ProCellCyclePhase from this project, as described in McDuff & Chisholm (1982) and modified by Liu et al. (1997). These calculations require an estimate of Td, the duration of the terminal cell cycle phase (in this case the combined duration of S and G2). Td is derived here using the areal median of the S and G2 time series (Braunwarth and Sommer 1985) as recommended by Hynes et al. (2015).
