Title: Zooplankton abundance data from the 10m2 MOCNESS from R/V Endeavor, R/V Albatross I, and; R/V Oceanus broadscale cruises in the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank from 1995-1999 (GB project (NCEI Accession 0105531)
Abstract: This dataset contains biological and survey - biological data collected on R/V Albatross IV, R/V Endeavor, and R/V Oceanus during cruises AL9505, AL9506, AL9508, AL9605, AL9607, AL9701, AL9705, AL9707, AL9801, AL9806, AL9808, AL9901, AL9904, AL9906, EN261, EN263, EN265, EN276, EN278, EN282, EN320, OC275, OC298, OC300, OC302, OC317, OC319, OC322, OC336, and OC341 in the North Atlantic Ocean from 1995-02-01 to 1999-06-30. These data include abundance, family, order, phylum, and species. The instruments used to collect these data include MOCNESS10. These data were collected by Dr Laurence P. Madin and Mr Erich Horgan of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the "U.S. GLOBEC Georges Bank (GB)" project and "U.S. GLOBal ocean ECosystems dynamics (U.S. GLOBEC)" program. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2023-01-23.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Zooplankton abundance data from the 10m2 MOCNESS

Dataset Description:
Organism abundance derived from sampling by the
10 m 2 MOCNESS system

Important information:

The catch from each net was subsampled and all animals in the subsample were counted. Due to the shear volume of data, only those animals found were represented in these on-line data. i.e. , no animals with zero abundances were listed. The precision variation in the latitude and longitude numbers is as reported. Not all nets for all tows are represented here. Some nets came back empty.

NOTE: See the companion file containing the length measurements of the organisms screened. moc10data lengths (
