These 3- and 4-person submarines were used for detailed videophotographic work, close-up still photography, and sampling (push-cores, grabs, sediment cores, rock collection, organism collection, relocation experiments and placement of markers). A total of 59 dives with bottom times of two to six hours per dive were conducted from these platforms prior to the beginning of the present Study.
