Definition: Unit of measure for quantifying the amount of light available for photosynthesis. Represented in NODC File Alias F029 (Primary Productivity) Master Record as a four character value in units of micro-einsteins per square meter per day to three digits - the fourth character is for an exponent value, as all units will be positive values. Five microEinstein = one footcandle. For additional discussion, see http://pubpages.unh.edu/~jwc/einsteins.html (last viewed on 2007/03/23).
