Title: Cell counts of pico and nano phytoplankton and picoplankton abundance from THOMAS G. THOMPSON from TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S) as part of the US JGOFS EqPac project from 1992-03-23 to 1992-10-21 (NCEI Accession 9700085)
Abstract: Cell counts of pico and nano phytoplankton and picoplankton abundance were collected from the Thomas G. Thompson as part of the US JGOFS EqPac project. Data were collected from the Pacific Ocean (30 N to 30 S) from 25 March 1992 to 21 October 1992. Data was obtained from bottle casts. Temperatures, salinities, and pressure data are not included. Samples were analyzed using dual beam flow cytometry. Data include nominal depth of samples, enumeration and analysis of picoplankton and bacteria. Prochlorococcus, Synechococcus, and ultra-phytoplankton were recognized according to their light scatter and fluorescence characteristics as described previously (Olson et al. 1993).

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
