Title: | Zooplankton data collected from NOAA Ship DAVID STARR JORDAN in TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S) from net casts; 1970-11-07 to 1973-02-13 (NCEI Accession 9500133) |
Abstract: | Zooplankton data were collected during the La Jolla laboratory's (NMFS) Skipjack program from the early 1970's are attached. There were five cruises: Cromwell 51 (8 Nov - 20 Nov 70), Jordan 57 (2 Nov - 17 Dec 70), Jordan 60 (1 Mar - 16 Mar 71), Jordan 65 (16 Aug - 19 Oct 71), and Jordan 77 (8 Jan - 17 Feb 73). The procedure and gear used on the Skipjack cruises were the same as on the EASTROPAC surveys. That is, the amount of wire let out was 300 m (depth permitting), wire angles were maintained near 45 degrees throughout the tow, and the net frame had side by side. Rings with one-meter and .5-meter mouth-openings. The mesh sizes of the nets were 505 microns for the larger ring and 333 microns for the smaller one. Flow meters were centered in the mouth of the net rings. |

Supplementary information: | Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
