Title: WATER TEMPERATURE and other data from USS STEPHEN W. GROVES from 1994-06-27 to 1994-08-31 (NODC Accession 9400156)
Abstract: The data in this accession were collected from USS STEPHEN W. GROVES between June 27, 1994 and August 31, 1994. Twenty stripcharts and radio logs were submitted to NODC.

Real time water temperature profiles measured by expendable bathythermograph (XBT) were recorded on strip charts by the US Navy. Radio logs are forms that contain time, weather latitude/longitude, vessel id, ship id, etc. Radio logs were radioed every two hours to a US Navy facility. There is one profile per strip chart. Some strip charts are annotated with time /date /ship id /latitude /longitude.

These profile strip charts and radio logs have not yet been digitized. The analog charts may be reviewed by special arrangement with NODC.

Supplementary information: Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database
maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The
design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content
Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information
accurately represents all available information from the legacy database
at the time that this description was created. However, proper
attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or
collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact
mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this
uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the
Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, the NODC reviews metadata for all
accessions on an ongoing basis.
