The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: | BAROMETRIC PRESSURE and Other Data from ALPHA HELIX and Other Platforms from North Pacific Ocean as part of the Hawaii Ocean Time Series data (HOTS) project from 1991-02-01 to 1991-12-09 (NCEI Accession 9300149) |
Abstract: | Temperature, Depth, Salinity, dissolved Oxygen (CTD); and Ocean chemistry data collected in North Pacific Ocean between February 2, 1991 and December 5, 1991 during cruises conducted using ships ALPHA HELIX, MOANA WAVE, and WECOMA as part of the Hawaii Ocean Time-Series (HOTS) project, to fulfill the requirements of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE). Data was collected from 19 CTD stations /10 Ocean chemistry stations and a diskette containing records was submitted to NODC by Steven M. Chiswell, University of Hawaii at Manoa. CTDs are standard level, not hi-res in ASCII. Hawaii Ocean chemistry data was received from G. Heimerdinger in lotus 1-2-3. HOTS WOCE-required data included in this submission are: CTD pressure, CTD temperature, CTD salinity, CTD oxygen, bottle salinity, bottle oxygen. JGOFS Hawaii Ocean Time Series data (HOTS Year3) data collected primarily from a HOTS deepwater site 100 km north of Kahuku Point, Oahu (Station Aloha, 22 degrees 45 N, 158 degrees W. A second station near Kahe Point at 21 degrees 20.6 N, 158 degrees 16.4 W provided additional data at a nearshore site). Data were collected during the ten cruises of HOTS-Year 3 from February 1991 to December 1991 from the University of Hawaii's R/V Moana Wave, the R/V WECOMA and the R/V ALPHA HELIX. In addition to these JGOFS data, NODC has archived HOTS-3 data retrieved by Michael Woodford directly from the SUN workstation at the University of Hawaii. These "raw" data from HOTS-3 were downloaded from the Hawaii workstation and are on the NODC server under Accession Number 9300040, Reference numbers L01487-L01495. *These "raw" data are without documentation and are primarily WOCE-required CTD data. The primary focus of WOCE is on physical oceanographic processes; the primary focus of JGOFS is on biological/chemical processes. HOTS WOCE-required data included in this submission are: CTD pressure, CTD temperature, CTD salinity, CTD oxygen, bottle salinity, bottle oxygen. Any questions or comments regarding the CTD data format may be sent to: Sharon DeCarlo JIMAR, University of Hawaii MSB 312, Honolulu, Hawaii 96822, Email: hot@hokulea.soest.hawaii.edu |

Lukas, 1993 Hawaii Ocean Time-series Program, Data Report No. 3. Honolulu, Hawaii : School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, University of Hawaii, 1990. Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
