The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: Low resolution real-time physical trajectory profile data from glider ng487 deployed by Integrated Ocean Observing System Program (IOOS), Loggerhead Instruments, NOAA National Ocean Service (NOS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Ocean and Coastal Observing - Virgin Islands, Inc. (OCOVI), Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; Center for Ocean Observing Leadership (RU COOL), and US Navy; Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) in the Caribbean Sea from 2018-07-17 to 2018-09-19 (NCEI Accession 0257892)
Abstract: This collaborative project is focused on collecting temperature and salinity profiles in the waters in the vicinity of the US Virgin Islands to investigate the oceans role in modulating hurricane intensity in the region. Specifically, glider data will be utilized to both validate and improve operational coupled ocean and atmosphere hurricane models. The 5 Naval Oceanographic gliders deployed in the US Virgin Islands were part of a larger network that included an additional 5 in the vicinity of Puerto Rico. These gliders were provided and operated by the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) and are part of a larger effort to deploy and operate over 100 gliders simultaneously. The data these Littoral Battlespace Sensing (LBS) gliders collect is used in underwater ocean forecasts that support a wide range of naval operations. This glider also carried a Loggerhead Instruments Remora Acoustic Recorder, but the data from this sensor is not contained in this dataset.

The National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) received the data in this dataset from the Integrated Ocean Observing System's National Glider Data Assembly Center (IOOS NGDAC). The IOOS NGDAC received the data in one or more netCDF files comprising an entire glider deployment. The data are measurements of physical oceanographic properties such as temperature, salinity, conductivity, and density. The IOOS NGDAC checked the files for compliance to their netCDF file convention, aggregated the files into a single netCDF file, and then submitted the file to NCEI for long-term preservation. Data files may be either low resolution real-time or full resolution. Full resolution files are designated as "delayed" in the netCDF file name.
