Title: |
Continental United States Heat Index and Wind Chill Climatology from 1973 to 2020 (NCEI Accession 0224863) |
Abstract: |
While regional heat index and wind chill climatologies have been created in the past, limitations of data availability and accessibility have made a nationwide product for hourly-observed variables and derived products very difficult. However, the Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC) in partnership with the Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) created a web services portal called Cli-DAP where NCEI hourly-observed data became easily accessible. As part of an NCEI additional work request, the MRCC produced a climatology of Heat Index and Wind Chill for the continental United States as a result of the increased data accessibility. In this dataset, stations files throughout the U.S. include threshold climatologies for various relevant thresholds. Individual years are also available for each threshold in these files. For heat index, probabilities of a certain heat index threshold are also available. |
