The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: Climatological Atlas of the Nordic Seas and Northern North Atlantic (NODC Accession 0118478)
Abstract: This Atlas is a result of an international collaboration between the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (Russia), Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen (Norway), and the National Oceanographic Data Center (USA). The Atlas is based on more than 500,000 stations collected during 1900 - 2012 years. It contains decadal, periodic, annual and monthly climatological fields of water temperature, salinity, and density on 0.25-degree grid at different depths. In addition to the climatological maps, time-depth diagrams of all parameters, including oxygen, at twelve selected areas covered by long-term observational programs are available.

Supplementary information: The dataset was run through the CF compliance checker at http://puma.nerc.ac.uk/cgi-bin/cf-checker.pl

Based on the results, it has been noted that the dataset has a few issues that prevent it from being strictly CF compliant:

1. The dataset is missing a few "REQUIRED" attributes as specified by the CF Conventions document:

- The co-ordinate variables lat, lon, depth and time are missing the "standard_name" and "axis" attribute.
- The co-ordinate variables lat, lon and depth are missing the "bounds" attribute.
- The co-ordinate variable time is missing the "calendar" attirbute.

2. The value of the Global attribute "featureType" is invalid.
The value of the "featureType" attribute should be "grid" and not "Grid"

3. The cell_methods attribute for the "Temperature" variable has an invalid syntax message according to the CF compliance checker, but appears to be valid to the extent we can determine.

In this accession, NCEI has archived multiple versions of these data. The latest (and best) version of these data has the largest version number.
