Title: Oil pollution and the significant biological resources of Puget Sound : final report field survey from 1974-07-16 to 1976-09-01 (NCEI Accession 7601556)
Abstract: Biological and chemical data were collected using sediment sampler and other instruments in the PUGET Sound, which is in the Northwest coastal waters of Washington. Data were submitted by the University of Washington; Friday Harbor Laboratory and the data were collected from 16 July 1974 to 01 September 1976.

Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard Inter-tidal/Sub-tidal Organisms and Habitats (F100) format.

The F100 format is used for data from field sampling of marine organisms in intertidal or subtidal habitats. The data are collected to provide information about species abundance and distribution. Data reported may include: position, date, and time; sea surface temperature and salinity, sediment size analysis, habitat descriptors, and other supporting environmental data; sampling methods and equipment; species identification and organism counts and weights for any number of species; biological condition of individual specimens including age, sex, dimensions, and parasites; and stomach contents analysis. A text record is available for reporting comments.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).

Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.

To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.
