The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: Global distribution of phosphate using high sensitivity techniques from data aggregated from many studies between 1988-2017 (NCEI Accession 0291995)
Abstract: This dataset contains chemical data collected in the Alboran Sea, Arabian Sea, Bering Sea, Chukchi Sea, Coral Sea, East China Sea (Tung Hai), Indian Ocean, Ionian Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean Sea - Eastern Basin, Mediterranean Sea - Western Basin, North Atlantic Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, Philippine Sea, Solomon Sea, South Atlantic Ocean, South China Sea (Nan Hai), South Pacific Ocean, Tasman Sea, and Tyrrhenian Sea from 1988-01-01 to 2017-12-31. These data include Dissolved Inorganic Phosphate and depth. The instruments used to collect these data include Liquid Waveguide Capillary Cells, Niskin bottle, and Pump - Surface Underway Ship Intake. These data were collected by Adam Martiny of University of California-Irvine as part of the "Convergence: RAISE: Linking the adaptive dynamics of plankton with emergent global ocean biogeochemistry (Ocean_Stoichiometry)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2019-08-28.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Global distribution of phosphate using high sensitivity techniques

Dataset Description:
Acquisition Description:
For complete methdology, see Martiny et al, (2019).

Data have been aggregated from many studies. Procedures and methodology include the following:
Sampling procedures: Liquid samples taken from the Rosette or Underway System. Samples are either processed fresh or stored frozen until processing. Some samples are pre-filtered.

Methodology: High sensitivity dissolved phosphate measurements done using either Liquid Waveguide Cells, magnesium induced precipitation (MAGIC), or solid phase extraction.

Many instruments were used but the main procedures include: MAGIC (Karl & Tien, 1992), LWCC - Liquid Waveguide cells (Li & Hansell, 2008), and Solid phase extraction (Ma, Yuan, & Yuan, 2017).
