| Abstract: | This dataset contains biological and physical data collected from 1994-01-01 to 2020-01-01. These data include density and taxon. These data were collected by Peter J. Edmunds of California State University Northridge as part of the "RUI: Pattern and process in four decades of change on Caribbean reefs (St John Coral Reefs)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2021-06-25. The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO: Acquisition Description: Location: St. John, US Virgin Islands. 18.315°N, 64.716°W Excerpt from publication Biology Letters Juvenile Porites Juvenile corals were ≤ 4-cm diameter, and were surveyed from 1994 to 2020 at six sites. Juveniles were unlikely to be sexually mature, and were identified assuming sexual maturity is reached at ~ 4 cm diameter. Favia fragum and Siderastrea radians probably achieved sexual maturity at Juvenile corals were counted in quadrats (0.5 × 0.5 m, n = 40) randomly placed along one 40-m transect at each site, with surveys conducted in May (1995-1995) or July/August (1994 and 1998-2020). Corals were identified to species or genus, and the results pooled among taxa.
