Title: Porosity and density of sediments collected Fall 2019 in the Santa Barbara Basin using ROV Jason during R/V Atlantis cruise AT42-19 (NCEI Accession 0291551)
Abstract: This dataset contains physical data collected on R/V Atlantis during cruise AT42-19 from 2019-10-31 to 2019-11-09. These data include density and depth. The instruments used to collect these data include Gravity Corer, Push Corer, ROV Jason, and Scale. These data were collected by Tina Treude of University of California-Los Angeles and David L. Valentine of University of California-Santa Barbara as part of the "Collaborative Research: Do benthic feedbacks couple sulfur, nitrogen and carbon biogeochemistry during transient deoxygenation? (BASIN)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2022-02-08.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Dataset Description:
Acquisition Description:
Sediments were collected with push cores (6 cm inner diameter) along three depth transects across the Santa Barbara Basin using the ROV Jason.

Sediment porosity was determined by drying sediments at 75°C for five days and calculated using the difference between wet and dry weights, divided by the volume of sediment.

Sediment density was determined by weighing a defined volume of wet sediment and dividing the weight by volume.
