The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. Title: Data collected daily along the ship track in JGOFS format from ARSV Laurence M. Gould and RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer cruises to the Southern Ocean from 2001-2003 as part of the Southern Ocean GLOBEC project (NCEI Accession 0278821)
Abstract: This dataset contains meteorological, optical, and physical data collected on ARSV Laurence M. Gould and RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer during cruises LMG0103, LMG0104, LMG0106, LMG0201A, LMG0203, LMG0205, LMG0302, NBP0103, NBP0104, NBP0202, and NBP0204 in the South Atlantic Ocean, South Pacific Ocean, and Southern Ocean from 2001-03-18 to 2002-09-16. These data include PAR, Speed over ground, air temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, radiation_l, radiation_s, sal_ss, sea surface conductivity, sea surface temperature, wind_dir_c, and wind_speed_c. The instruments used to collect these data include Anemometer, Barometer, Echo sounder - single-beam, Eppley Longwave Radiometer, Fluorometer, Hygrometer, Photosynthetically Available Radiation Sensor, Precision Spectral Pyranometer, and Thermosalinograph. These data were collected by Dr Daniel P. Costa of University of California-San Diego, Dr Joseph J. Torres of University of South Florida, and Dr Peter H. Wiebe, Dr Richard Limeburner, and Dr Robert C Beardsley of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the "U.S. GLOBEC Southern Ocean (SOGLOBEC)" project and "U.S. GLOBal ocean ECosystems dynamics (U.S. GLOBEC)" program. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2019-02-28.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Data collected daily along the ship track in JGOFS format

Dataset Description:
Environmental and Navigational Data from the Ship's Monitoring Systems,
Reported along the Ship's Track

This along track (JGOFS) data set was obtained primarily by applying calibrations to raw data and decimating to whole minute intervals. Several fields are derived measurements from more than an single raw input. For example, Course Made Good (cmg) and Speed Over Ground (sog) are calculated from gyro and GPS inputs.

Cruises often used "9.99" or "9999" to indicate bad data. Those numbers were changed to 'nd'. Not all bad data were flagged in this way however. Users of these data are encouraged to read the Data Report (found at the Directory Level of this system under "Inventory" then under "project/cruise id", and then under "data report") in order to be aware of bad data points that are not indicated by "9"s and therefore remain in the dataset.
