Title: Primary production from the San Pedro Ocean Time-series (SPOT) measured between 2014 to 2016 (NCEI Accession 0278441)
Abstract: This dataset contains biological data collected on R/V Yellowfin during cruise N-SPOT_Yellowfin_Cruises from 2014-09-10 to 2016-07-12. These data include depth and primary production. The instruments used to collect these data include CTD Sea-Bird 9, Fluorometer, GO-FLO Bottle, Isotope-ratio Mass Spectrometer, Niskin bottle, and Secchi Disc. These data were collected by Alyson Santoro of University of California-Santa Barbara and Douglas G. Capone of University of Southern California as part of the "Collaborative Research: New Approaches to New Production (N-SPOT)" project. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NCEI on 2020-08-20.

The following is the text of the dataset description provided by BCO-DMO:

Primary production measured using H13CO3 from the San Pedro Ocean Time-series (SPOT) measured between 2014 to 2016

Dataset Description:
Acquisition Description:
From 2014 to 2015, water samples were collected using a 12 x 12 L Niskin bottle rosette equipped with a conductivity, temperature, and density (CTD) instrument package (SBE 9plus, Sea-Bird Electronics, Bellevue, Washington, USA), including dissolved oxygen (SBE 43) and photosynthetically available radiation (PAR, LI-COR, Biospherical Instruments Inc., San Diego, California, USA) sensors. Due to CTD failure, samples collected in 2015 and 2016 were collected primarily using manually triggered Go-Flo bottles and depths were chosen primarily using a profiling natural fluorometer (PNF) system as well as secchi disk.

Rates of primary production were measured by quantifying the rate of CO2 fixation via H¹³CO₃ uptake. Samples were analyzed using an IsoPrime continuous flow isotope ratio mass spectrometer. Quadruplicate samples were collected and amended to a final concentration of ~25 µmol L-1 of H¹³CO₃. Incubations were carried out for 24 hrs at ambient temperature and light.
