Title: Global Coral Bleaching Database (NCEI Accession 0228498)
Abstract: Coral reefs are one of the most important ecosystems in the world, supporting hundreds of thousands of species and providing food, coastal protection, and income to hundreds of millions of people. However, coral reefs are experiencing more frequent and intense stress events leading to coral bleaching. The process of coral bleaching involves a breakdown of the symbiosis between the coral hosts and their endosymbiotic algae, which can lead to starvation and mortality. Here we compile a global coral bleaching database of 35,053 records of the presence or absence of coral bleaching from 1963 - 2023.
