Disaster Cost and Frequency
Use the interactive mapping tool below to better visualize the frequency and cost of billion-dollar weather and climate events. Select a desired combination of disaster types along with metric and beginning and end years. The Events dropdown will be populated by each event that meets the selected criteria. All events or a single event can be mapped.

Each geographic region of the U.S. faces a unique combination of weather and climate hazards. Historically, the U.S. South, Central, and Southeast regions have experienced the highest frequency and highest cost from billion-dollar disaster events. These same U.S. regions are also projected to have the most negative future impacts across several socioeconomic metrics (see Risk Mapping).
