Shenandoah National Park - VA024 Additional Site Information Pat Dougherty Detrend method: Linear regression of any slope Collection purpose: Ecology - insect outbreaks Data was collected from two sites in SNP. These sites were the Upper Staunton River area and Limberlost. Data was gathered to support dissertation research on the impact of the hemlock woolly adelgid which was first seen in 1988. The number of cores collected was restricted by Park Service due to possible impact to trees. The purpose was to see if pre-existing conditions were present (slow growth) which may have set the stage for hemlock decline due to adelgids attack. Growth prior to the adelgid was observed to be very high(compared to past 100 years)and did not set stage for attack. Trees of all ages were cored for this study.
