Nevertheless, documenting past atmospheric moisture contents and their sources remains challenging partially due to insufficient moisture-tracing proxies. Here, we present triple oxygen isotope compositions in 21 cave speleothems from monsoonal Asia to examine spatial moisture origin differences in eastern Asia over the past 300 years. Our data suggest an isotopic equilibrium fractionation during speleothem formation, and thus parent water 17O anomalies (Δ′17O) values reconstructed from speleothems preserve information on moisture origins and recycling across space. Notably, speleothem Δ′17O records exhibit a distinct geographical distribution, with low values in central-eastern and southern China, high values in northwestern and northern China, and relatively high values in the Yangtze River region. This spatial pattern underscores the diverse influence of different moisture sources regulated by regional hydrological circulation, and demonstrates the potential use of speleothem Δ′17O in reconstructing the moisture cycle at spatial scales. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: National Natural Science Foundation of China # Grant: 41888101, 42103005, 42003006, 42272214 #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: Yunnan Fundamental Research Projects # Grant: 202201AS070022) #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: Reserve Talent of the Young and Middle-age Academic and Technical Leader in Yunnan Province # Grant: 202205AC160025 #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: Institute for Basic Science (IBS) Republic of Korea # Grant: IBS-R028-Y2 #--------------------------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name: Asian monsoon region # Location: Asia # Northernmost_Latitude: 40 # Southernmost_Latitude: 9 # Easternmost_Longitude: 118.5 # Westernmost_Longitude: 91.5 # Elevation_m: #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: Asian monsoon Reconstructed-Parent water Sha2023 # First_Year: 1733 # Last_Year: 2022 # Time_Unit: year Common Era # Core_Length_m: # Parameter_Keywords: oxygen isotopes, geochemistry, age control # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: # # No Location Cave name Laber Latitude (East) Longitude (N) Dating method Age_CE Mineral composition # 1 Guangdong Niubi Cave NB2 112.58 24.26 230Th dating 1986 Aragonite # 2 Guangdong Niubi Cave NB3 112.58 24.26 230Th dating 1952 Aragonite # 3 Jiangxi Shennong Cave SN4-1 117.25 28.7 230Th dating 2000 Aragonite # 4 Jiangxi Yongquan Cave YQ15-1-1 115.65 29.61 230Th dating 2000 Aragonite # 5 Jiangxi Yongquan Cave YQ15-2-1 115.65 29.61 230Th dating 1985 Aragonite # 6 Guizhou Shuanghe Cave SH-1 107.28 28.25 230Th dating 1733 Calcite # 7 Guizhou Longtan Cave LT-1 106.22 28.22 Monitoring collection 2020 NaN # 8 Chongqing Furong Cave FR 107.9 29.22 Monitoring collection 2018 NaN # 9 Hunan Lianhua Cave LH 109.55 29.15 Monitoring collection 2015 NaN # 10 Hubei Sanbao Cave SB-M-1 110.43 31.67 230Th dating 2010 Calcite # 11 Hubei Sanbao Cave SB-M-2 110.43 31.67 230Th dating 2010 Calcite # 12 Hubei Yangxingui Cave YXG-1 115.35 29.68 230Th dating 1993 Aragonite # 13 Hubei Cijiaping Cave CJP 110.47 31.76 Monitoring collection 2022 NaN # 14 Shandong Qujia Cave QJ1 118.42 35.71 230Th dating 1967 Calcite # 15 Shandong Qujia Cave QJ2 118.42 35.71 230Th dating 1841 Calcite # 16 Sichuan Zhangjia Cave ZJ1 105.92 32.51 230Th dating 2001 Calcite # 17 Sichuan Zhangjia Cave ZJ2 105.92 32.51 230Th dating 1874 Calcite # 18 Shanxi Qianfo Cave QF-1 109.38 33.23 Monitoring collection 2020 NaN # 19 Henan Dongshiya Cave DSY-1 111.57 33.77 Monitoring collection 2020 NaN # 20 Beijing Jimao Cave JM2-1 115.88 39.81 230Th dating 2014 Calcite # 21 Beijing Jimao Cave JM3-1 115.88 39.81 230Th dating 1987 Calcite # 22 Beijing Shihua Cave SHH 115.93 39.78 230Th dating 1886 Calcite # 23 Qinghai Rige cave RG 97.2 32.22 230Th dating 2021 NaN # 24 Thailand Tham Sing Khon cave TSK1-1 99.04 9.04 230Th dating 2018 Aragonite # 25 Thailand Tham Sing Khon cave TSK1-2 99.04 9.04 230Th dating 1945 Aragonite # 26 Thailand Tham Sing Khon cave TSK2-1 99.04 9.04 230Th dating 2018 Aragonite # 27 Surat Thani Tham Nhong-Lha cave TNL3-1 99 9.1 230Th dating 2018 Aragonite # 28 Surat Thani Tham Nhong-Lha cave TNL3-2 99 9.1 230Th dating 1988 Aragonite # 29 Central Myanmar Lin Noe Twin cave LNT09-T 96.41 21.24 230Th dating 2000 NaN # 30 Central Myanmar Lin Noe Twin cave LNT03 96.41 21.24 230Th dating 2010 NaN # 31 India Mawmluh cave ML8-1 91.88 25.26 230Th dating 1907 Aragonite # #--------------------------------------- # Variables # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Resource: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Description: Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus terms, definitions, and relationships in SKOS format. # # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-var components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, data type, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) # ## NO. sample identification,,,,,speleothems;
