Sampling Method:  The varved record in Elk Lake begins in A.D. 1927.
Therefore, "Varve No. 1" corresponds to  A.D. 1927, "Varve No. 2"
corresponds to A.D. 1926, etc. "varve No. 100"  corresponds to A.D. 1827,
or 100 varve years (calander years) before present, in which "present" =
A.D. 1927.  The thickness of each varve and cumulative varve thickness are
given in millimeters.
