Increment cores were removed from # approximately 10 cm height above ground level on living trees and cross # sections were cut from stumps, logs, and snags such that one surface was # at an estimated 10 cm height above root crown. Cores sampled had to be # no more than a field-estimated 10 years from pith. On increment cores # or cross sections that did not include pith but inside ring curvature # was visible, pith dates were estimated using overlaid concentric circles # of varying diameters that take into account both average inside ring # widths and an estimated distance to pith. # # Reference: Brown, P.M. 2001. All were either living or stumps except for 2 snags. # Trees dated to the early 1700s cohort (11 trees between 1721 and 1730) # or had piths scattered in the latter 1700s to latter 1800s. Fire scars # were common on the stumps, and included a unique scar on one tree at 1777. # A scar also was recorded on one tree at 1819 while other trees recorded # scars at the more common date of 1822. # 1 Tree ID 2 Year 3 Feature 1,1834,pith 1,2000,bark 2,1727,pith 2,1822,fire scar latewood 2,1863,fire scar undetermined 2,1864,last ring 4,1850,pith 4,2000,bark 5,1892,pith 5,2000,bark 6,1845,pith 6,2000,bark 8,1862,pith 8,2000,bark 9,1839,pith 9,1896,last ring 11,1702,pith 11,1753,fire scar undetermined 11,1822,fire scar latter earlywood 11,1880,fire scar undetermined 11,1890,fire scar undetermined 11,1891,last ring 12,1708,pith 12,1753,fire scar undetermined 12,1777,fire scar latewood 12,1785,fire scar dormant postition 12,1820,last ring 13,1855,pith 13,2000,bark 16,1730,pith 16,1822,fire scar undetermined 16,1916,last ring 17,1722,pith 17,1785,fire scar dormant postition 17,1842,last ring 18,1724,pith 18,1753,fire scar latewood 18,1785,fire scar latter earlywood 18,1819,fire scar latewood 18,1863,fire scar early earlywood 18,1896,last ring 19,1739,earliest ring 19,2000,bark 20,1730,pith 20,2000,bark 21,1727,pith 21,1785,fire scar undetermined 21,1822,fire scar undetermined 21,1823,last ring 22,1725,pith 22,2000,bark 23,1727,pith 23,1785,fire scar undetermined 23,1822,fire scar undetermined 23,1845,fire scar dormant postition 23,1860,last ring 24,1721,pith 24,1753,fire scar dormant postition 24,1845,fire scar undetermined 24,1846,last ring 25,1724,pith 25,1743,fire scar latter earlywood 25,1863,fire scar undetermined 25,1864,last ring 26,1773,pith 26,1822,fire scar latewood 26,1863,fire scar undetermined 26,1864,last ring 27,1774,pith 27,1832,last ring
