We combine these new records with published data from three additional S. siderea coral colonies to generate a 278-year long multi-species stacked Sr/Ca-SST record from DTNP. The composite record of mean annual Sr/Ca-SST at DTNP shows pronounced decadal-scale variability with a range of 1 to 2 °C. Notable cool intervals in the Sr/Ca-derived SST lasting about a decade centered at ~ 1845, ~ 1935, and ~ 1965 are associated with reduced summer Sr/Ca-SST (monthly maxima < 29 °C), and imply a reduction in the spatial extent of the Atlantic Warm Pool (AWP). There is significant coherence between the composite DTNP Sr/Ca-SST record and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) index, with the AMO lagging Sr/Ca-SST at DTNP by 9 years. Low frequency variability in the Gulf Streamsurface transport, which originates near DTNP, may provide a link for the lagged relationship between multidecadal variability at DTNP and the AMO. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: USGS Climate and Land Use Change, Research and Development Program # Grant: #--------------------------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name: Dry Tortugas National Park # Location: Florida Keys, Florida, USA # Northernmost_Latitude: 24.7 # Southernmost_Latitude: 24.6 # Easternmost_Longitude: -82.9 # Westernmost_Longitude: -82.7 # Elevation_m: #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: FloridaKeysSST_Flannery2017 # First_Year: 1733 # Last_Year: 2011 # Time_Unit: year Common Era # Core_Length_m: # Parameter_Keywords: trace metals # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Resource: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Description: Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus terms, definitions, and relationships in SKOS format. # # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-var components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, data type, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) # ## DateComposite age,,,year Common Era,annual,corals and sclerosponges,,,N, ## Composite sea surface temperature,strontium/calcium,one standard deviation,degree Celsius,annual,corals and sclerosponges,,Monte Carlo simulation,N,monte carlo stacking scheme #------------------------ # Data: # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing_Values: NA DateComposite Composite 2011 27.63 2010 26.61 2009 25.97 2008 25.16 2007 25.43 2006 25.71 2005 24.70 2004 25.78 2003 25.65 2002 25.54 2001 25.20 2000 25.55 1999 25.34 1998 25.37 1997 24.65 1996 24.31 1995 25.35 1994 25.79 1993 25.86 1992 25.06 1991 26.19 1990 25.33 1989 25.58 1988 24.91 1987 25.08 1986 25.69 1985 25.21 1984 25.09 1983 25.24 1982 26.07 1981 25.38 1980 24.94 1979 24.76 1978 24.82 1977 24.37 1976 24.62 1975 25.43 1974 25.61 1973 25.16 1972 25.06 1971 25.06 1970 24.45 1969 24.44 1968 23.96 1967 24.27 1966 24.06 1965 23.74 1964 24.15 1963 24.22 1962 24.83 1961 25.11 1960 24.75 1959 24.73 1958 24.30 1957 24.82 1956 24.99 1955 25.02 1954 25.06 1953 24.78 1952 24.64 1951 25.33 1950 25.42 1949 25.50 1948 26.27 1947 25.74 1946 25.44 1945 25.31 1944 25.25 1943 25.26 1942 24.95 1941 25.38 1940 24.60 1939 24.41 1938 24.72 1937 25.13 1936 25.09 1935 25.23 1934 24.69 1933 24.87 1932 25.49 1931 25.49 1930 24.94 1929 25.13 1928 24.69 1927 25.55 1926 25.64 1925 25.25 1924 25.60 1923 26.04 1922 25.89 1921 25.57 1920 25.55 1919 24.49 1918 24.87 1917 25.65 1916 25.77 1915 24.85 1914 25.23 1913 25.06 1912 25.51 1911 24.94 1910 25.68 1909 25.33 1908 25.44 1907 26.07 1906 24.93 1905 24.87 1904 24.93 1903 25.25 1902 24.83 1901 25.21 1900 24.99 1899 25.10 1898 26.24 1897 26.00 1896 25.55 1895 24.94 1894 25.21 1893 24.86 1892 26.09 1891 25.81 1890 26.00 1889 26.21 1888 25.45 1887 25.00 1886 24.39 1885 24.88 1884 25.34 1883 25.76 1882 25.61 1881 26.03 1880 25.89 1879 25.17 1878 24.94 1877 25.18 1876 25.57 1875 25.80 1874 25.15 1873 24.97 1872 25.86 1871 25.57 1870 25.63 1869 25.39 1868 25.29 1867 25.56 1866 25.52 1865 25.65 1864 25.35 1863 25.28 1862 25.52 1861 25.16 1860 25.09 1859 25.45 1858 25.94 1857 25.77 1856 26.05 1855 25.10 1854 25.10 1853 25.23 1852 24.89 1851 25.10 1850 25.06 1849 25.18 1848 24.91 1847 24.51 1846 24.80 1845 25.39 1844 25.98 1843 26.05 1842 25.61 1841 25.43 1840 24.81 1839 25.45 1838 25.04 1837 24.76 1836 25.10 1835 25.43 1834 25.40 1833 25.02 1832 25.26 1831 25.01 1830 25.51 1829 25.15 1828 26.69 1827 25.33 1826 25.47 1825 24.70 1824 25.51 1823 24.74 1822 24.84 1821 25.57 1820 25.27 1819 25.24 1818 24.46 1817 24.32 1816 25.01 1815 25.04 1814 24.83 1813 24.87 1812 25.11 1811 25.27 1810 25.69 1809 25.70 1808 25.32 1807 25.22 1806 25.77 1805 25.67 1804 25.44 1803 25.72 1802 24.57 1801 24.82 1800 25.25 1799 26.08 1798 25.05 1797 24.99 1796 24.90 1795 25.12 1794 24.02 1793 24.17 1792 24.66 1791 24.66 1790 25.58 1789 24.58 1788 24.21 1787 24.25 1786 24.18 1785 24.93 1784 25.23 1783 24.27 1782 25.55 1781 25.68 1780 25.83 1779 25.29 1778 25.45 1777 25.57 1776 25.14 1775 25.39 1774 26.11 1773 25.99 1772 25.89 1771 25.66 1770 25.70 1769 26.27 1768 25.58 1767 25.74 1766 25.37 1765 25.85 1764 25.91 1763 24.97 1762 25.19 1761 24.80 1760 24.96 1759 25.80 1758 26.44 1757 24.90 1756 25.73 1755 25.55 1754 25.58 1753 26.35 1752 26.18 1751 25.56 1750 25.91 1749 25.82 1748 25.76 1747 25.58 1746 25.31 1745 25.45 1744 25.65 1743 26.46 1742 25.26 1741 23.91 1740 23.97 1739 24.47 1738 24.58 1737 24.31 1736 25.60 1735 25.70 1734 26.52 1733 27.23
